ATHENS General Assembly meeting at WUT

On June 5–6, 2025, the International Cooperation Centre of Warsaw University of Technology hosted the General Assembly of ATHENS programme coordinators. The inauguration was attended by Dr. Eng. Rafał Wróblewski, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs at the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, Grzegorz Robak, Director of the International Cooperation Centre, and Anna Smulska, the ATHENS programme coordinator at WUT. The meeting brought together 15 coordinators from the ATHENS network and 4 coordinators who connected remotely.

The event began with a guided morning walk through the Old Town. The main part of the assembly took place at the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering. A report on ATHENS network activities in 2025 was presented. Participants discussed programme participation statistics, satisfaction levels among students, teachers, and host institutions, as well as the challenges faced during the March session.

The second day focused on the legal framework of the ATHENS network and the vision for its further development. Attendees were invited to reflect on possible legal structures, funding models, and the programme’s strengthened role within the European Higher Education Area.

Established in 1997, ATHENS is a programme aimed at student exchange between leading European technical universities and at the implementation of joint European development and training initiatives. Currently, 15 technical universities and institutions from Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, Hungary, and Italy participate in the programme.
