Educational Mission of the Warsaw University of Technology in the United States

On 9–12 January 2026, a delegation of the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) comprising Prof. Mariusz Malinowski – Vice-Rector for Research; Prof. Robert Zalewski – Vice-Rector for Student Affairs; and Grzegorz Robak – Director of the Centre for International Cooperation, participated in an educational mission to the United States.

The event was organised by the City of Warsaw in cooperation with the Consulate of the Republic of Poland in New York, the Warsaw Tourism Organisation, and the Polish Youth Association based in New York. Participants in the mission included the President of the City of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski; the authorities of the largest public universities in Warsaw—the University of Warsaw, the Warsaw University of Technology, the Warsaw School of Economics, and the Medical University of Warsaw—as well as representatives of the City of Warsaw and the Warsaw Tourism Organisation.

Members of the educational mission participated in a meeting at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York, attended by Consul General Mateusz Sakowicz, Consuls Przemysław Postolski and Wiktor Cichecki, as well as students from Polish community schools and their parents. During the meeting, promotional videos addressed to prospective international students were presented. This was also an opportunity to showcase a new promotional video of the WUT. Subsequently, university authorities delivered presentations on their institutions and academic offerings from the perspective of prospective students. The presentation about WUT was delivered by Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Mariusz Malinowski, who also participated in a panel discussion. Questions from participants regarding student affairs and internationalisation were answered by Prof. Robert Zalewski and Grzegorz Robak. The meeting concluded with a Q&A session involving young people of Polish descent interested in studying in Warsaw and their parents. The mission program also included participation in the Polish Youth Ball and a meeting with representatives of Polish community organisations at Felician University in New Jersey. Each of these events was attended by approximately 100 participants.

On the final day of the visit, the WUT delegation met with the authorities of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). A discussion involving NJIT Vice-Rector for Research Prof. Atam Dhawan and deans focused on the research activities of both institutions. The subsequent part of the meeting, attended by Vice-Rectors for Student Affairs Prof. Sotirios Ziavras and Prof. Laurents Simon, as well as Marieta Chemishanova, Executive Director of the Office of Global Initiatives, addressed cooperation in the areas of student and staff exchange and joint educational programs. The WUT delegation also visited the university’s Maker Space.

Participation of WUT in the educational mission to the United States enabled the establishment of contacts with schools and Polish community organisations, as well as youth organisations in the USA. Representatives of Warsaw universities had the opportunity to exchange experiences in the areas of student recruitment, research, education, and internationalisation. Discussions with representatives of the City of Warsaw focused on support for university initiatives by municipal authorities and possible joint activities. Special thanks are extended to Mr. Łukasz Pawłowski, Deputy Director of the Office of the President of the City of Warsaw, for the excellent coordination of the visit.
