Inauguration of "Smart Sustainable Cities & Communities - Phantom Menace or New Hope?" workshop at WUT

On 1 March 2023, the inauguration of the "Smart Sustainable Cities & Communities - Phantom Menace or New Hope?" workshop took place. The event was organized by Warsaw University of Technology as part of the Erasmus+ (Blended Intensive Program) in cooperation with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the Technical University of Aachen (RWTH).

The inauguration was attended by prof. Robert Olszewski, Head of the Department of Cartography at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography at WUT, Martin Bangratz Ph.D., Chair of Planning Theory and Urban Development at RWTH Aachen University, Anna Rolewicz- Kalińska Ph.D., Faculty of Building Services, Hydro and Environmental Engineering, Agnieszka Wendland Ph.D. and Katarzyna Bargieł from the Department of Cartography at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography at WUT. Grzegorz Robak, Director of the Centre for International Cooperation, was also present.

The main outcome of the workshops is to design a mobile, interactive exhibition in the field of smart sustainable cities of the future. 

These activities’ objectives are to help students understand the importance and complexity of the smart city phenomena and the citizen-led needs these cities imply. They will learn about recent technology solutions applied to this topic and about how to recognise the potential of technology trends in their development. After this project, the participants will be familiar with basic ideas and theoretical concepts regarding smart cities, and they will be able to recognise the role of Sustainability Development Goals in this area.

The workshop will end with an exhibition of student projects at Warsaw University of Technology, May 19-26, 2023.

The workshop is attended by 30 students from 8 universities and 6 countries, including 6 universities of the ENHANCE Alliance and 2 Ukrainian universities as ENHANCE Network Partners: Kyiv Polytechnic University and Lviv Polytechnic University.
