"My PhD in 180 seconds" Competition - deadline 19.02.2024

The sixth edition of the "My PhD in 180 seconds" competition, organised by the French Institute in Poland in cooperation with the French Cultural Centre and Plejada - the Academic Association of Polish Romanists, is now upon us.

VISUEL POLOGNE

The competition is an opportunity for doctoral students to present their scientific work to a wide audience. It involves explaining complex issues in simple terms. In addition to the scientific dimension, the competition provides an opportunity to prove yourself in public speaking, which is a huge advantage in building your career!

Competition timetable

  • 15 January 2024 to 19 February 2024: deadline for competition entries: application form (direct link)
  • End of February / beginning of March 2023 (exact date to be announced soon): recordings of cadidate presentations
  • 17 to 23 March 2023: national games in Poland, online audience voting
  • 22 March 2024: National final at the University of Warsaw CCFEF
  • 6 June 2024: Central European final at ELTE University (Budapest)

To participate in the competition, participants must meet the following conditions

  • Be fluent in French,
  • Have been studying for a doctorate in the academic year 2023-2024 or have defended their doctorate less than 12 months before the international final in September 2024 (a copy of their student card and a certificate from their school will be required),  
  • Represent the university of which the doctoral student is a student. In the case of a PhD en cotutelle, the candidate can only represent one university and cannot make an application to participate in two countries that are parties to the competition,
  • Present a sufficient state of progress of the research project,
  • Inform their supervisor and/or funding unit and the director of the research unit of their participation in the competition,
  • Not be a finalist in previous editions of the competition,
  • Complete the application form by 19 February.

What awaits the contestants? 

  • Candidates can count on training on the content layer as well as on posture, gestures, facial expressions, etc.... 
  • The winners of the Polish stage will take part in the Central European finals, receive vouchers to be redeemed in a French-language bookshop and other prizes!
