One week to the ENHANCE GIRLS IN STEM competition finals!

14 secondary school female students from Spain, Italy, Sweden and Poland have qualified to the final stage of the ENHANCE competition. The ENHANCE GIRLS IN STEM finals will take place on June 7, 2022 in Warsaw during the "Perspectives Women in Tech Summit 2022" conference - the largest event in Europe for women in the field of IT, technology and science.

The competition is addressed to secondary school female students from Germany, Italy, Spain, Norway, Sweden and Poland. Universities from those countries affiliated with the ENHANCE Alliance were responsible for recruiting participants of the event. The aim of the competiton is to encourage girls to study science and technology.

24 students, including 9 girls from Poland, entered the competition organized by the Warsaw University of Technology in cooperation with the ENHANCE partner universities. The participants' task was to present in the form of a short film their ideas on how to tackle local environmental problem which may have a global dimension, such as excessive consumption of natural resources or climate crisis.

Ideas from Poland were submitted by secondary school students from: Katowice, Warsaw, Szczecin, Plock, Krzepice and Zyrardow. As many as 4 of them concerned solutions to problems with a drinking water access. 5 students from our country qualified to the ENHANCE GIRLS IN STEM finals.

The winners will receive prizes: laptops, a visit to the ENHANCE university of their choice and Interrail Global-Passes – the train tickets valid in 33 European countries.

In the week preceding the competition, the finalists participate in an individual consultations related to implementation of their projects, conducted by Dr Anna Rolewicz-Kalińska from the the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) Faculty of Construction Installations, Hydrotechnics and Environmental Engineering and in consultations on language and presentation techniques in English language conducted by Dorota Chromińska from the Foreign Language Centre at WUT.

The ENHANCE GIRLS IN STEM 2022 is the first edition of the competition. The Centre for International Cooperation (CWM) of the Warsaw University of Technology created the concept and rules of the competition in cooperation with the scientific and didactic staff of our university, designed website of the event, made translations of its content into 6 languages used by ENHANCE universities and coordinated variety of promotion and communication activities for the ENHANCE consortium.
