Participation of students from the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski High School No. XVII in Warsaw in the ENHANCE Future Lab at the Technical University of Berlin

From May 2-6, 2023, at the Technical University of Berlin, a group of young people aged 15-18 from Poland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Germany participated in the ENHANCE Future Lab project. It was aimed at creating a vision of the university of the future in the eyes of high school students. In an international team, under the guidance of trainers, discussions were held about the current state and future of higher education. Current challenges of higher education and education systems in different countries were identified. Poland was represented by 3 students from the 17th Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski High School in Warsaw.

Participants identified a number of problems that hinder effective learning and development of students' competencies: too many classes and exams, lack of individual approach to students, too few practical classes, and little emphasis on students' acquisition of practical skills.

All participants agreed that the current model of education at universities needs to change. The university of the future should be distinguished by a more flexible approach to teaching, greater freedom to choose classes and majors, and individualization of educational paths. In their view, the university should focus more on practical skills than on imparting theoretical knowledge. Participants also pointed to the need for investment in technical infrastructure and access to the latest technologies, without which the education of the future is not possible. The young people presented many ideas of their own, noting, among other things, the need to constantly develop the teaching competencies of the academic staff.

During the project, the students had a tour around Berlin. They saw many places associated with the city, such as the Reichstag, the East Side Gallery, the Brandenburg Gate and the Futurium Museum. A great value of the project was getting to know classmates from different European countries.
