Visit of the Vice-President of KAIST to WUT

On 15th September 2015 Professor Sung-Hyon Myaeng, Vice-President for International Cooperation of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) paid a visit to Warsaw University of Technology.

During a meeting with the Vice-Rector for Science of WUT, Professor Rajmund Bacewicz, potential areas of cooperation were discussed, with particular emphasis on research priorities of the two Universities (which have many common areas of research). Prof. Sung-Hyon Myaeng expressed particular interest in CEZAMAT – the newly emerging Centre for Advanced Materials and Technologies. The representatives decided to start their cooperation by signing an agreement on student and PhD exchange. The next step will be exchange of researchers and participation in joint research projects financed by EU and Korean industry closely cooperating with KAIST. During his visit, professor Myaeng visited also Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science and Faculty of Production Engineering, and was acquainted with research projects in the area of biomedical engineering and photonics conducted by the Faculty of Mechatronics.

Founded in 1971, KAIST is a leading technical University in South Korea, offering education mainly on Master and PhD level. For many years it has been highly ranked in national and international rankings, e. g. 68th place in the world in The Times Higher Education ranking and 63th place in QS ranking. Among the key areas of research and education activity of KAIST there are: biological science, medical and material engineering, civil and environmental engineering as well as mechanics and informatics. KAIST has 109 research laboratories. Some of them, such as NanoFab Centre, Humanoid Robot Research Centre, Satelite Technology Research Centre and Metabolic & Biomolecular Engineering National Research Laboratory, hold a rank of Korean national laboratories.
