ENHANCE Alliance with European Union funding of €14.4 million for 2023-2027

Sixty-five alliances of European universities submitted applications for the 2023 competition. As the European Commission announced in a communication dated July 3, 2023, 30 consortia received funding. The record budget for the entire program is €402.2 million. 

The common goals of the ENHANCE Alliance are European education without barriers, fostering knowledge and talent for Europe's future, and an alliance based on shared European values. ENHANCE was established in 2019 as a consortium of 7 technical universities. In 2022, 3 new universities joined. ENHANCE currently brings together 10 leading European technical universities. The consortium includes Technische Universität Berlin, Warsaw University of Technology, Chalmers University of Technology, ETH Zurich, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, TU Delft University of Technology, RWTH Aachen University, Gdansk University of Technology, Politecnico di Milano and Universitat Politècnica de València.

Fourteen associate partners have been admitted to the ENHANCE, including the City of Warsaw, Perspektywy Educational Foundation, Arts et Metiers Institute of Technology (A&M IT), Siemens, IBM Research, European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI), Falling Walls Foundation, Kyiv Polytechnic University and Lviv Polytechnic University. Associate partners will collaborate with the ENHANCE universities in selected activities.

Warsaw University of Technology, in close cooperation with the leading technical universities in Europe associated with the ENHANCE Alliance, has created and is implementing an ambitious program in crucial areas of university functioning. We lead many of ENHANCE's activities, such as educational strategy, innovative short forms of education and certification programs. We have designed and implemented summer schools, winter schools, language tandems, and workshops, created teaching materials, organised competitions, and developed a mentoring program for start-ups. Thanks to the funding we received for 2023-2027, we will be able to develop innovative forms of education with our partners and an IT system to support obtaining micro-credentials.”- said Prof. Krzysztof Zaremba, Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology.

Chair of the ENHANCE Steering Committee and Vice Rector for Education at Politecnico di Milano, Prof Stefano Ronchi welcomed the announcement, “We are very pleased to hear today’s news. The ENHANCE+ project is the result of a fantastic joint effort by all ENHANCE members and represents a significant next step in the development of Europe as one integrated higher education area. It is much more than a long-term project, it is a shared vision to foster European values. Together with our three new Alliance members, and excellent Associated Partners, we are now excited to get working on the further consolidation of our Alliance and to continue building on the successful work of the first three years. We have already seen the positive, transformative impact the first ENHANCE project has had on our institutions, and together we can now continue to develop our vision and expand our offer for students, staff researchers, and lifelong learners across our countries. Together we will prepare our graduates to tackle future global challenges."

ENHANCE's mission is to support responsible social transformation and promote the development and use of science and technology for the benefit of society. The ENHANCE Alliance participates in Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020 (ENHANCERIA program).

ENHANCE's key initiative - One Campus - aims to remove administrative barriers, support student and staff mobility, and develop a common educational strategy and innovative short forms of education. Research, innovation and community outreach are essential in the ENHANCE vision. With the Erasmus+ funding received, the consortium can make progress in all these areas.
