ENHANCE Girls in STEM finalists on their motivation to participate in the competition

The chance to develop an idea for a technological solution, the opportunity to make and present a prototype of one's own device in front of experts, winning mentors support, facing the challenges resulting from the climate change or proving, that girls can achieve success in science - these are the reasons why secondary school female students from Spain, Italy, Sweden and Poland decided to take part in the ENHANCE Girls in STEM competition. The finalists encourage to participate in future editions of the event.

The ENHANCE Girls in STEM competition is aimed at girls aged 16-19 from Germany, Italy, Spain, Norway, Sweden and Poland. Its goal is to encourage female students to study science and technology.

The finalists of the first edition of the competition explained in short interviews why they decided to take part in it and presented their ideas for solving environmental problems in their local communities.

They encouraged their peers to take part in subsequent editions of the competition as it will allow them to test and develop ideas, which may influence positive changes in their environment now and in the future. It is a good opportunity to gain valuable experience, participation in it allows to i.a. improve language, presentation and public speaking skills, but also to find inspiration and meet colleagues with similar interests from other countries.  The competition is a very good proposal for girls who would like to test themselves in a specific science area and a great adventure. The ENHANCE Girls in STEM finalists believe that not enough women are pursuing careers in science and participation in the competition could be the first step in that direction.
