"My PhD in 180 seconds" Competition - DEADLINE 8.03.2026

Ahead of us is the eighth edition of the competition “My Thesis in 180 Seconds,” organized by the French Institute in Poland in cooperation with the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), the University of Warsaw, the French Cultural Center, and Plejada – the Academic Society of Polish Romance Scholars.

Two winners of the national stage will have the opportunity to take part in the Central Europe Final, organized in mid-June in Vienna by the French Institute and the Vienna University of Economics and Business, in cooperation with the French Institutes from Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.

What is the “My Thesis in 180 Seconds” competition about?

The competition is an opportunity for doctoral candidates to present their research work to a wide audience. It involves explaining complex issues in a simple way. Beyond its scientific dimension, the competition provides a chance to test oneself in public speaking, which is a major advantage in building a career!

Competition schedule

  • 24 February – 8 March 2026: registration via the application form
  • 26 March 2026, 11:00 a.m.: national final at the Centre de civilisation française et d’études francophones (CCFEF), University of Warsaw
  • April 2026: public speaking training for the winners of the national final
  • 17 June 2026: Central Europe Final at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (Austria)

To participate in the competition, the following conditions must be met:

  • Be fluent in French;
  • Be a doctoral candidate in the academic year 2025–2026 at a higher education institution or research unit, or have obtained a doctoral degree no earlier than October 2025 at a university in Poland;
  • Represent the institution where the doctoral research is being carried out (in the case of a cotutelle doctorate – the institution from a member country of the Central Europe consortium);
  • Be at an appropriately advanced stage of the doctoral project;
  • Inform the supervisor and/or funding institution about participation in the competition;
  • Not have been a finalist in previous editions of the competition;
  • Complete the application form no later than 8 March 2026.
