Participation of scientists and students from Ukraine in the international conference CLIMATE CHANGE: CHALLENGES FOR LIFE QUALITY at WUT

The inauguration was attended, among others, by Prof. Paweł Popielski, Dean of The Faculty of Building Installations, Hydrotechnology and Environmental Engineering (WIBHiŚ), Prof. Anna Bogdan, Vice-Dean for General Affairs and Science of WIBHiŚ, Paweł Stańczak, Vice-President of the Polish Association of Sanitary Engineers and Technicians, Prof. Artur Badyda and Anna Rolewicz-Kalińska, PhD (both from WIBHiŚ), Anna Smulska and Piotr Szczepański from the Centre for International Cooperation.

The conference aimed to provide a platform for exchanging knowledge on the latest research results and technical solutions for challenges for life quality in the context of climate change. 

The leading idea of the conference was the challenges of maintaining high and fair standards of human life in the built-up urban environment and the overlapping of mitigation and adaptation strategies in this complex system, in which there are more and more challenges related to population density and anthropogenic changes.

During a panel discussion held on the first day, speakers from different countries representing various organizations (scientists, representatives of the city, NGOs) discussed the challenges and main directions of development in cities in the face of the challenges of climate change and the most critical tools currently to stimulate climate neutrality and ensure a safe future for living in an urban environment. 

After the lectures, conference participants went to the Norblin Factory for dinner.

The second day of the conference included three thematic sessions arranged around three main blocks:

Block 1: Green materials and increasing the environmentally safe and safe use of resources, environmental pollution related to climate change and its impact on the quality of human life. 

Block 2: Green buildings and aspects of circularity in cities, also in the era of the smart city concept. 

Block 3: Sustainable energy use, new and unconventional energy sources, and challenges in the area of energy consumption. 

At the end of the second day of the conference, participants took part in a two-hour bus tour of Warsaw.

An important part of the conference was the workshop for young scientists and students, which took place on Saturday. During the workshop, a discussion and exchange of experiences on climate change mitigation and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in cities was initiated.

Particular attention during the conference was given to the challenges facing Ukraine - especially those measures that will be taken after the war to improve the quality of life of people in cities in the context of climate change.
