Summary of the "Masters of Didactics" program at WUT

On April 16, 2024, in the Senate Hall of the Warsaw University of Technology, the Center for International Cooperation organized a university seminar on the implementation of modern teaching methods at the Warsaw University of Technology. Modern teaching methods are a strategic goal in the area "Education" in the Development Strategy of Warsaw University of Technology until 2030. 90 people attended the seminar.

Prof. Jan Słyk, Vice-Rector for Studies at the Warsaw University of Technology, opened the meeting. Grzegorz Robak, Director of the Center for International Cooperation, gave a presentation summarizing the "Masters of Teaching" program at Warsaw University of Technology.

The program was implemented from 2020 to 2023 with the goal of improving the competence of academic staff in the use of innovative teaching methods. In the 1st stage of the program (overseas training, testing), 55 academic staff from 16 faculties/units of PW participated. The 2nd stage of the program (implementation) was attended by 12 academic teachers from 9 faculties/units of PW. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education financed the program with funds from the Operational Program Knowledge, Education, Development.

The floor was then taken by WUT academicians who participated in training courses at top foreign educational centres (University College London, Ghent University, University of Aarhus, University of Groningen, University of Oslo), and then tested and implemented modern teaching methods in classes with students at their departments. They were:

  • Dr. Eng. arch. Ewa Jarecka-Bidzińska, Department of Geodesy and Cartography, training at Ghent University, Belgium
  • Rafał Wróblewski, PhD, Faculty of Materials Engineering, training at Aarhus Univeristy, Denmark
  • Krzysztof Ejsmont, Ph.D., Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, training at University College London, United Kingdom
  • Lukasz Makowski, Ph.D., Faculty of Electrical Engineering, training at University of Groningen, Netherlands

The "Masters of Teaching" program was coordinated by the Center for International Cooperation. Coordination included preparation of the application and budget, recruitment of participants, organization of foreign trips, preparation of factual and financial reports, distribution and submission of evaluation reports and surveys to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, organization of meetings with program participants at the University of Warsaw, and speaking at conferences of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
