The FALLING WALLS LAB WARSAW 2022 competition has been resolved
On September 15, 2022, in the Small Hall of the Warsaw University of Technology took place the nationwide final of the FALLING WALLS LAB WARSAW competition. The competition was organized by the 'pro science' company with the participation of the Center for International Cooperation. The Warsaw University of Technology hosted the finals, and one of the substantive partners was the ENHANCE consortium.
The Warsaw finals gathered an audience of nearly 200 people, including representatives of the world of science and business.
During the finals, 20 participants – young researchers, doctoral candidates and students from all over Poland presented their ideas or research-related initiatives, the most important assumption of which was breaking down barriers, breaking down the walls dividing the world of science, new technologies, economy and society.
Each participant had 3 minutes to present in English the selected problem and its solution, which was assessed by an international jury, including: Vice-Rector for Science, Warsaw University of Technology, prof. dr hab. inż. Mariusz Malinowski, Naveed Syed (Secretary General of the ENHANCE consortium) and representatives of business and the media. Among the finalists there were eight people associated with the Warsaw University of Technology.
The first place was won ex aequo by Agnieszka Żuchowska (Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Chemistry) and Kiranmai Uppuluri (Łukasiewicz Research Network - Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics). The first finalist interested the audience in a new model of early disease detection, while the second presented a tool to control the level of contamination in water reservoirs (rivers, lakes and ponds)
The second place was taken by Sada Raza (Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences), which presented an interesting solution for the food industry.
Mikołaj Więckowski (Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Chemistry) took third place - for an idea that allows to reduce heat loss in apartments.
The first parallel prize was presented by the Vice-Rector for Science of the Warsaw University of Technology, prof. dr hab. inż. Mariusz Malinowski and Natalia Osica, founder and Managing Director of the ‘pro science’ company. The second prize for the first place was presented by Naveed Syed (Secretary General of the ENHANCE consortium) and Florian Frank (Head of Unit Science and Research, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany).
An important part of the FALLING WALLS LAB WARSAW final was the audience award, which went to Kiranmai Uppuluri.
The winners of the FALLING WALLS LAB finals in Warsaw have a chance to win the ‘Breakthrough Winner of the Year’ title in the ‘Emerging Talents’ category. The win also allows them to participate in the international conference ‘Science Summit’ (November 7-9, 2022) and in workshops and meetings that precede it, organized especially for Falling Walls Lab winners from all countries. This global endeavor is coordinated by the Falling Walls Foundation.
