Visit of the delegation of Universidade de Lisboa to WUT

On 28th July 2015, a delegation of Universidade de Lisboa headed by its Vice-Rector Prof. Rogerio Gaspara paid a visit to Warsaw University of Technology.

Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) was created in 2013 by a merger of the former Technical University of Lisbon (UTL) and the University of Lisbon (UL). It is currently the biggest and the best HEI in Portugal, consisting of 18 schools educating 60 000 students in 8 campuses in Lisbon and its surroundings. Thanks to immense research and educational potential ULisboa gained high position in international rankings of HEIs, e.g. Shanghai Ranking (the top 250).

Warsaw University of Technology has been cooperating with Universidade de Lisboa, especially with its technical part - Instituto Superior Tecnico, for many years. Cooperation concentrates not only on student exchange based on Erasmus+ and ATHENS programmes, but also on research collaboration in EU Framework Programmes. In the framework of Horizon 2020 programme WUT and ULisboa conduct jointly a project named EUROfusion - a long-term research programme in the area of acquisition of energy from fusion power.

Universidade de Lisboa, which acquires almost half of its funds from private sources, focuses its research activity on several leading disciplines: health, power engineering, agricultural engineering and forestry, marine sciences and intelligent cities. Many of these fields are complementary with WUT’s research priorities, which opensmany possibilities of cooperation between the two Universities.

During their visit at WUT the ULisboa delegation was welcomed by the Rector of Warsaw University of Technology Prof. Jan Szmidt and had a chance to get acquainted with current WUT initiatives,in particular with research projects and the newly-created Centre of Advanced Materials and Technologies CEZAMAT
